"We are a sent people, sent by God to others: sent to our families, our co-workers, our neighbors. No matter how inadequate you may feel or how many false prophets stand in your way, God's promise is that he will never send you to do something without giving you the power to do it." — Father Trevor
Thanks to Proclamation Flowers farm for one last summer hangout on this dreamy evening. Looking for more chances to get connected at City of Light? Keep your eyes open for info on teams and groups in the coming weeks!
Studies show that if an adult commits to spending just one hour each week with a student, it can permanently change that child’s life for the better, including self-esteem and longterm school and job performance. We’ve had the incredible opportunity to take part in Kids Hope at Hill Elementary these past two years and we’re currently looking for mentors for the 2019-2020 school year. Not only does this program impact our schools and our neighborhood, but it gives a gift of hope each adult mentor. Can you serve for one hour once a week in our Kids Hope mentoring program? Email Cory ([email protected]) for more information.
We had a great turn out for our first night of ESL registration! Thanks to World Relief Dupage/Aurora for their leadership and organization to tangibly serve our neighborhood. There is one more chance to register: Tuesday night 8/27 at 6 PM at Hill Elementary. Interested in serving one time or throughout the semester? Email Erika at [email protected].
For our final Summer Hangout we’re headed to the Francis’ flower farm, just an hour from Aurora, for a special tour of the fields and then dinner at a retro diner in downtown Wilmington. More details in our newsletter (linked in bio.) Hope you can make it!

This week our children heard the story: The Ethiopian Believes, from Acts 8:5-8 & 26-40. They wondered why the Ethiopian man was reading Isaiah, and if Phillip felt nervous to go up and talk to a stranger. They also wondered what it felt like to be taken away by the Lord and end up in a totally different place! Click on the link below to read more, and to get some ideas for family worship & prayer time.
Father Trevor and Pastor Bonnie McMaken share about their summer sabbath and how in saying no to many things and feeling so limited, they experienced our limitless God.

Hard to believe it’s already this time of year again! Join us this Sunday at 10am for a special back to school blessing. No matter what school looks like for you (public, private, home, teacher, student, college, pre-k) we want to start this year off with you and in prayer together.
"We all have those "until moments"—"everything was going great, until..." So how do we as the church approach those "until moments"? We pray, we pray together, with urgency, and tenacity, knowing that in response to the prayers of the church the power of God overcomes the power of evil, even in the face of setbacks or our fragile faith." — Chad Magnuson

It was a joy to worship together with Lindsey and David Goetz for our August Family Service yesterday. Even these blurry iPhone photos capture the joy of serving alongside our children and youth and the gift it is to celebrate how freely we are all welcomed into God's family, called to be his special people.
